Engagement Shoot In The Mourne Mountains

Nuala and Patrick planned their Engagement Shoot in the Mourne Mountains around their love for hiking! What a great idea! We decided we would incorporate one of their favourite hikes in the Mournes – the Brandy Pad – and then explore the surrounding area! There are so many amazing locations in the Mournes to choose from!

We began our hike from Meelmore Lodge which has some great facilities and is an excellent starting point for anyone wanting to hike up to Hare’s Gap. It also has a great little cafe and provides safe onsite parking.

Engagement Shoot in the Mourne Mountains

It takes about an hour to hike up to the Mourne wall from Meelmore. One huge tip if you’re planning a hike like this for your engagement shoot is to bring a change of clothes with you – the hike up to Hare’s Gap can be quite muddy in places. We didn’t plan to start our shoot until we were higher up into the mountains so Nuala & Patrick did an outfit change when we got to our shooting location. Another useful tip if you’re planning your engagement shoot in the Autumn or Winter months is to wear thermals under your clothes. This will help keep you warmer when at higher elevations as the temperature can drop several degrees and feel much colder than it did in the carpark!

Usually I try and plan my engagement shoots in the Mournes around golden hour, which is just after sunrise or before sunset (check out this recent engagement shoot to see what I mean!). However, in the winter months, the sun never rises that high in the sky so the light is much softer and more flattering pretty much all day.

If you’re an adventurous couple and love the mountains, then I’d love to hear from you!
